Jameelah Taylor

Jameelah Taylor is a singer, actress and educator currently based in New York City.

 

She holds a Master of Arts in Music Education from Teachers College, Columbia University as well as  a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Vocal Performance from The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music in New York City. â€‹

Jameelah has performed in venues across New York City which include The Stone, Joe's Pub, Carnegie Hall, Webster Hall and the historic Kings Theatre during New York Fashion Week. Most recently, she played a young teen named Amaya Lawrence in the Habeebi & It Is Entertainments short film, America Again.

Jameelah is a passionate educator, and is the current Choral Director at Basis Independent Brooklyn. Since starting the position in 2016, her choirs and vocal students have participated in various festivals, performances and workshops such as the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Festival, Disney Performing Arts OnStage and the Broadway Classroom Workshop. In addition to serving as Choral Director, Jameelah is the Musical Director for the school's Spring Musical. She has directed Into the Woods JrAnnie Jr., and Bye Bye Birdie Jr.

Jameelah has been teaching private voice lessons in New York City for over six years. Her voice studio seeks to instill a lifelong passion for music and to develop a means of expression and confidence in every student.
